‘Sound System’ to make UK debut on Bowers & Wilkins’ first ever stage in partnership with Real World at WOMAD 2014
This is not your usual festival event. We have created an incredible sonic experience that brilliantly captures the intensity, beauty, and joy of both sound and music. The Society of Sound stage features an eclectic array of sound pioneers and musical adventurers, celebrating the art of listening through live performances, DJ sets and interactive happenings.
Highlights include a rare DJ set from the legendary David Holmes, some fabulous sonic strangeness from The Radiophonic Workshop, and an album being created live on stage by world-famous beatboxer and artist Beardyman.
This is the very first time that ‘Sound System’ will be revealed to a UK audience. Having received numerous accolades for its performance including Primavera curator DJ Fra who said, “Sound System was fantastic – you could hear every detail, every beat, it was beautiful.” The speaker system will now delight audiences in Bowers & Wilkins’ home country.
Bowers & Wilkins Brand Director Danny Haikin explains what UK audiences can expect from ‘Sound System’ at the Society of Sound Stage,“Our presence at WOMAD allows festival-goers the opportunity to revolutionise their live music listening experience, while also challenging them to think about the importance of sound through various workshops, demos and interactive talks.”
“Society of Sound has been our way of helping artists to realise their creative vision for music, such as Laura Mvula’s ‘Sing to the Moon’ – recently re-recorded with leading orchestra Metropole Orkest at Abbey Road Studios. Or Ethiopian jazz pianist prodigy, Samuel Yirga, whom we flew from Addis Ababa to record his debut at Real World Studios. The yet-to-be-released Radiophonic Workshop album is another extraordinary recording that we were very proud we could make happen and will be available via Society of Sound later on in the year.”
