Trio Goya's Hayden - the Heart of Invention
World renowned harpsichordist, Maggie Cole, formed Trio Goya with Kati Debretzni and Sebastian Comberti. They play classical music – primarily trios by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Storace and Schubert – on period instruments.
Though born in the US, Cole is resident in the UK and is best known through her numerous recitals on BBC Radio 3 and appearances at leading British Festivals, Debretzni is a leading Baroque violinist from Transylvania and British born Cromberti has been principal cello with many orchestras and founded specialist label Cello Classics.
Together they have recorded Haydn’ s trios for Society of Sound at Real World Studios and plan to record a double CD of the trios to coincide with the 200th anniversary of his death.
We’re really proud to be able to offer this recording to our members and would love to know what you think.

Can B&W please, please, get the metadata 100% right? Your high audio standards need to be matched by professional-librarian-level cataloguing precision.
The flac files for this recording have various album names including, amusingly “The Hearth of Invention” (very warming). The year, genre and composer are blank, etc etc.

Posted: Thursday, 1 October 2009We do apologise for the mistakes in the Trio Goya metadata. We have severely reprimanded the engineer in question and hope it hasn’t prevented you enjoying the music.
Susanna
Anyone know why this Trio Goya recording isn ‘t offered as a 24-bit FLAC?
Posted: Monday, 5 October 2009Dear Peter,
Posted: Monday, 5 October 2009Our policy is to only offer albums in 24bit FLAC if they were recorded in this format. Maggie Cole’s Trio Goya album unfortunately wasn’t so rather than upsampling, we are offering it in its native formats.
Hi Susanna,
Thanks for the explanation, and I agree with your policy. I tend to find Haydn to be a “fussy” Mozart (yeah, I know, pretty dismissive), but the interview with Maggie Cole, the recording, and the performance won me over.

Posted: Monday, 5 October 2009What determines whether or not a recording will made in the 24-bit format vs. 16-bit?

Posted: Tuesday, 6 October 2009Hi Peter,
Posted: Wednesday, 7 October 2009Ideally all our recordings will be made in 24bit format wherever possible. Sometimes recordings come to us partially started and recorded in formats other than 24bit and it’s these that we don’t wish to upsample.
Maggie Cole started recording her album for us at Real World at the beginnning of the year and at that point we hadn’t started offering 24bit recordings to members.
I hope this helps,
Susanna
Thanks, Susanna, for the explanation. In the end, it’s an excellent recording and performance, and that’s what counts.

I’m glad you like it Peter, and I agree with you regarding Haydn generally but I too was totally convinced by this recording.
Posted: Monday, 12 October 2009It it still possible to download this album ?, I can’t find it on the download page.
Posted: Thursday, 26 November 2009Dear Remi,
Posted: Thursday, 26 November 2009Unfortunately the Trio Goya album was only available for one month. it may well be available in the back catalogue in the New Year but this entirely up to the artist as they retain the rights.
Kind regards,
Susanna
This recording was snapped up by Chandos Records and was released at the end of June. It’s now available as a CD or download and is getting great reviews. I love it too!!
