Gwyneth Herbert ‘Ten Lives’

Gwyneth Herbert @ Real World Studios

Blue Note’s Gwyneth Herbert’s ‘Ten Lives’ is our new Society of Sound album.

Her last album was described as “a masterpiece” by Courtney Pine and we think this one is excellent too. Have a listen and let us know what you think.

She’s currently on tour in the UK and you can find all her tour dates on her site here.

I first apologize for my very bad english writing (I’m a “Frenchy”, nobody’s perfect !). But I did really want to say how much your idea of publishing quality music on this site agree to me.

‘Ten Lives’ is the album I preferred, through the four already proposed. I first enjoy Gwyneth Herbert’s voice, once warm and then almost violent. And the orchestrations are very lovely. Bluffing listening quality in flac format !

I’m waiting for the next album with impatience, and hope this initiative will last a lot of years.

Is it me or is the ALAC version of Gwyneth Herbert’s Ten Lives – badly distorted compared to the FLAC ?

I’ve actually converted the FLAC back into AIFF and then into ALAC and it seems to be much better quality than the download?

I think that in some songs (I downloaded apple mp4) the sound is too much loud that I would expect. It is only in some songs of this marvelous work

The first two albums took a little while to grow on me, but Gwyneth Herbert’s was an instant liker. Nice voice, nice songs. I loved the double bass – wish more artists would use it.

I like to get all the lyrics here too!
Where can I get them otherwise?

  • Nate Rogers-Branch says:

Is there any way I can get a copy of this CD?

    Many thanks

    Hi Nate,
Not this version, but she released it in an expanded form as All the Ghosts on Naim’s label: http://www.naimlabel.com/recording-all-the-ghosts.aspx
