On a Monday evening in East London, a small pub reverberated from the wizardry of a world-class DJ – and a legendary sound system.
In an exclusive preview event, and ahead of its appearance at the iconic Primavera Sound 2017 next month, the
Bowers & Wilkins Sound System turned up to show off its sonic mastery at the unsuspecting Lion & Lamb pub in Hoxton; perhaps a location slightly removed from the scorching hot fields of Barcelona. Featuring two DJs from record label Hivern Discs of the same area in Spain, the audience were to be indulged in a euphonious affair throughout the evening.
DJ and producer JMII commenced the formalities from behind the decks. His progressive set provided a fine introduction to the Sound System’s capabilities for the audience to hear, resulting in a thrilling crescendo which set the scene for the night’s musical highlight.
John Talabot, DJ extraordinaire, founder of Hivern Discs and long-time Bowers & Wilkins fan was the evening’s main sonic orchestrator. Weaving through genres spanning from techno to disco, tinged with just about everything in-between, he put the Sound System to the test and we can assure you it passed – magnificently. Suspended from the ceiling, the Sound System’s presence was felt, structurally and sonically by the audience, which, combined with Talabot’s scintillating set, added to the raw, urban atmosphere of the evening.
Incorporating the latest technologies from the 800 Series Diamond loudspeaker range, the culmination of 50 years of acoustic research, the Sound System has never sounded better. For this year’s festival (the Sound System’s fourth) all new Continuum cones have been added, ensuring optimum mid-range clarity. Each stack also features four Nautilus tube-loaded high frequency drivers for crystalline sounding treble. Delivering rock-solid bass are two 380mm (15”) Rohacell composite drivers. The result: a festival PA system with unprecedented sound quality and impact.
The Sound System will be appearing at Primavera Sound 2017 on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of June, hosting an exciting line-up of a wide variety of DJs, including John Talabot and JMII. If you are attending, visit the Bowers & Wilkins stage to experience the sound – you would be foolish not to.
