10 years of Society of Sound

Bowers & Wilkins Society of Sound has been a home for outstanding music for 10 years.

The pursuit of true sound is a science, but it’s also about people and bringing us closer to the music we love. We have created a place where people can come to for ideas and inspiration. A Society of Sound. This playlist draws together some of the sonic moments of the last decade which have provided a special impact – an emotional rush, challenging your ears to something unexpected or just the pure delight in the quality of sound and performance.

Oli Jacobs, head engineer at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios reflects on the tracks that provide the highlights:

“Trying to choose a few tracks to represent the sonics that met the ears of Society of Sound members over the last ten years was a challenge for Amanda Jones (label manager, Real World Records) and I. There have been many incredible albums – from Laura Mvula with the Metropole Orkest to The Gloaming and Loney dear.

The tracks on this playlist showcase some of our personal favourites. Some tracks stand out for their clever or innovative production, interesting sounds or arrangements; while others are fronted by moving vocal performances or poignant lyrics. Additionally, most have interesting back stories surrounding their creation, which Society of Sound members were able to read about as they listened to the album.

Of course, they excel sonically and have all been expertly captured and mixed, so I encourage you to take an hour or so out of your day, put on your headphones or crank up your speakers and see if you agree…”

I’ve just downloaded the 24bit FLAC version of the 10th anniversary compilation and found out that track number 17is not “Immigres”. It is “In Your Eyes” (the final track from the same album (SoS:88)). For me it’s not a big deal as I own SoS:88 album and can copy the correct track but maybe you want to fix the issue anyway.
    cheers from Vienna,
